You told us and we acted – HIC has redesigned its website in response to feedback from BC First Nations. The new site is more visual, contains more information, makes content easier to access and better describes the work HIC has been carrying out since Council launched.
The homepage centrepiece is an image of Rebirth – an original painting reflecting the connection of Indigenous people to their communities and the transformation underway as First Nations reclaim control over our lives. It’s a theme symbolic to our journey to create a First Nations developed, led and controlled housing and infrastructure authority. HIC commissioned the piece by Cree artist Jerry Whitehead who created it onsite at HIC's March 2019 Housing Forum.
“We’re creating this housing and infrastructure authority with First Nations and it’s imperative our website and communication materials are easy for First Nations to navigate and easy to understand. We hope our new website design addresses feedback we heard in our engagement and builds on materials we have already developed in this process. We’ll maintain an approach of openness, transparency and making as much information available as possible in everything we produce as we continue our work,” says Garry Merkel, Executive Director of HIC.
HIC would like to thank Council Member Kerry Black who spearheaded the redesign, working with the Council and team. We also thank BC First Nations and other organizations for sharing your feedback. HIC’s work will continue to advance and the website will continue to evolve and to reflect our progress.
