Jim has been involved in First Nations housing and infrastructure programs and service delivery for almost four decades working with First Nations organizations, government agencies and service providers to improve Aboriginal housing in British Columbia. His expertise spans housing program development and management, technical building construction and inspection, and advisory roles fostering collaboration to develop solutions. A certified building inspector, building construction technology journeyman by trade and experienced technical housing program manager, Jim has worked with dozens of First Nations overseeing capital projects, delivering programs, managing building inspections and serving as project lead on dozens of capital projects.  

 

Jim is Principal of First Nations Inspections, which provides Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and Indigenous Services Canada certified building code compliance inspections to First Nation bands in BC’s central interior. He serves as the BC representative for the First Nations National Building Officers Association, which represents people in First Nations communities providing residential, commercial and institutional construction and renovation technical services. Jim holds a Technical Services Agreement with BC Housing and has managed a Technical Services agreement CMHC providing inspections, as well as held an agency agreement with CHMC’s Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program On-Reserve program, which offers financial assistance to First Nations to repair substandard homes.

 

Previously Jim was Technical Services Manager for Carrier Chilcotin Tribal Council, managing the housing department serving member and non-member bands throughout the region, providing project management advice and services to member bands for major capital infrastructure projects. He was also a Senior Inspector and Program Manager for BC Native Housing, supporting housing delivery to Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal People residing within rural areas located throughout BC.

 

Jim has provided expertise to several housing and infrastructure initiatives during his career. He has been the BC Technical Representative on the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Chiefs Committee on Housing and Infrastructure (CCHI) since 2001, as well on the AFN Chiefs Committees on Emergency Management Water. Jim was also a member of the Aboriginal Housing Committee for British Columbia, a partnership of representatives from BC First Nations, CMHC and Indian & Northern Affairs Canada, advising on strategies to improve aboriginal housing in BC and assist with implementation, during its 11-year existence. In addition to being an Interprovincial Journeyman Carpenter, Jim holds multiple operator and inspector certifications.

 

Jim is registered with Sumas First Nation and President of the Maiyoo Keyoh Society, representing the Maiyoo Keyoh in north central British Columbia.
