Niki Lindstrom

Housing is a significant part of my experience. Having been the Development Coordinator for the first supported housing in Prince George and then Coordinator of the new homeless shelter, I understand the importance of proper housing. I am very honoured and highly motivated to be a part of the movement of Indigenous people gaining access to decent housing. This is one of the largest equations that will help balance life of Indigenous people.

Closing the gap between on and off-reserve housing is something I have seen as a great need for so long. The idea of having true consultation that matters for everyone is extremely exciting to me. Meaningful conversation, input and dialogue is what has drawn me to this role. The passion of the people who are a part of this is incredible. With the voices of all Indigenous peoples in BC and across Canada, it will prove to be an authority that will revolutionize Indigenous housing as we know it.

The fact that the federal government has joined UNDRIP and this mission is materializing, makes me proud to be Canadian. Indigenous people responsible for their own housing and infrastructure is long overdue. Reconciliation by improving conditions upon the designation of land Indigenous people were transferred to is a momentous step in the right direction.
